Local Coe College student earns athletic letter in Football

Wes Anderson of Newhall earned an athletic letter for outstanding participation on the Coe College Football team during the fall 2012 season. Anderson, a 2010 graduate of Benton Community High School, is the son of Douglas and Helen Anderson. Currently a junior at Coe, Anderson is a second-year letter winner in Football. Wes Anderson was a Second Team All-Iowa Conference selection.

Teaching the World to Sing: Sweet Adelines inviting women to audition in CR

She chose to participate in NCCC FEMA Corps because she is interested in the field of emergency management and wanted to add some valuable skills and experiences to her resume. She learned about the program from one of her high school friends who also applied and was accepted to the Vicksburg, Miss.

Shannon Waring Presents Psychology Research at Central College

  Shannon Waring, a sophomore at Central College, presented a research proposal Wednesday, Dec. 5 on campus. Waring, a native of Walker, Iowa, was taking the Psychological Investigations class taught by Dr. Keith Jones. Waring's presentation was titled "The Roles of Gender and Level of Competition in Coping With Stress in Sports.

Kirkwood Named Leading Study Abroad Institution

Kirkwood student John Bruce, Iowa City, in Tanzania, summer 2012 Only two-year college in Iowa earning recognition “Start Here, Go Anywhere.” Kirkwood Community College’s motto certainly rings true for the 25,000 annual students pursuing higher education through the two-year college. But for those who study abroad through Kirkwood, it’s a pretty literal term. The Institute of International Education (IIE) announced its list of the top 27 two-year colleges in the nation, each annually sending more than 50 students on study abroad excursions.
